In the article “Just Smelling Coffee Can Give You A Brain Boost.”, Rossen (2018) discusses the benefits and effects on smelling coffee. The benefits for the aroma of coffee is that the “anti-inflammatory properties”  may prolong life expentency and lower the risk of ‘type-2’ diabetes. In the area of effect, Rossen mentioned that the aroma of coffee might increase one productivity.

According to Spear (2018), a study published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology discuss the effects on smelling coffee. In the study, two groups of students were asked to take a “Graduate Management Apitutde Test (GMAT).” These students were separated into two different environment rooms. The first group of students were in the room filled with the aroma of coffee while the latter was in a room without any scent of coffee. The group of students that were in the room with aroma of coffee did slightly better than the other group. They mentioned that they felt invigorated by the aroma of the coffee upon entering the room. This resulted in them to be perceived of being more concentrated in doing the test. Rossen briefly mentioned that in previous studies, a scientist came to a conclusion in an experiment that “sleep-deprived rats” who were exposed to the scent of coffee were able to “ease their fatigue-related stress”.

This article is a relevant reference to our idea of creation behind automated siphon brewing coffee machine. Our team has done researched and realized that siphon brewing coffee produces one of the best aroma coffee. This article uses the effects of smelling coffee which convinced us to create the automated machine. Moreover, there are no automated coffee brewing machine in the market right now that is able to automatically brew coffee through siphon method without having to pay attention to. Hence, our team decided to make enhancement on the current siphon coffee brewer.

The Effective Communication module was a fulfilling journey for me as I get to improve myself in terms of writing and presenting skills. When the module first began, I thought it was going to be just another typical bridging English Language class. But as week past by, I’ve gained quite a bit from my fellow peer mates and Professor Blackstone. The flow of how the module panned out was relatively smooth as we started with back to the basics of English Language and then applying to the assignment such as design summary, review, technical writing. In the article “Smart Running Shoes: Will They Change The Way You Run?”, Lin (2017) discusses the functions and features of different versions of the Altra smart running shoes. In 2011, the first model of Altra IQ was introduced to the market. Sensors are incorporated in the soles of the shoes which can deliver “Real-time stride analysis”. The responses will then be relayed through smart devices such as "smartwatches, phones, and earbuds". In 2017, engineers who invented the Altra smart shoes claimed that it was designed to not only record statistics but also “help runners avoid repetitive injuries” by tracking the user's "footfalls in real-time” via an app. An audio assistant prompts the user to rectify their movements to prevent injury.
